Friday, October 31st, 2008

Come sample our featured teas today! Our samples are always complimentary and offer you a great way to taste many different selections from our over 200 loose teas!

Golden Yunnan Supreme

Golden Yunnan Supreme

Golden Yunnan Supreme is named for its golden appearance as a beautifully golden tipped black tea from China’s Yunnan province, near Tibet. The teas from this region offer a wonderfully chocolate-ty taste, with notes of earth and sweetness and a smooth finish. Known as the “mocha of teas” you can enjoy this black tea for breakfast, afternoon or even alongside a rich dessert after dinner. If you are breaking your coffee habit, this is a great tea for you to try as you enter into a new tea drinking lifestyle!

Drum Mountain Clouds & Mist (Gua Shan Yun Wu) green tea comes from China’s high mountains, offering a light, delicate, sweet melon taste but a complexity that is beautiful. The Clouds & Mist teas are generally darker as a dry leaf, due to the tea plant’s production of more chlorophyll because of the lack of light in the cloudy environment. This is Jonathan’s new favorite green tea!

Chocolate Ginger Rooibos is sure to please with its slightly spicy ginger taste and rich chocolate notes. Blended with South African Rooibos (Red Bush), it also contains chocolate bits, ginger, and flavoring. This makes a great dessert tea or a fun holiday treat.

Today’s Teas: Palm Court, Rose Garden, & Sentimint Rooibos

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Today we have a great black tea blend, a green tea with rose, and an aromatic earl grey rooibos with mint!

Palm Court blend originated as a special black tea blend for the Plaza Hotel in New York City. The original Palm Court seating area for tea is apparently now completely changed after the building was remodeled, but the tea is still available. This tea blends Assam, Keemun, Ceylon and Oolong teas for a nice breakfast or afternoon black tea.

Rose Garden is a delicate Chinese green tea with beautiful rose petals, organic at Guatemalan origin. The green tea is refreshing and light, while the rose petals add a floral sweetness, blended to perfection, so as not to overpower the green tea, but to enhance the flavor.

Sentimint Rooibos: Allow your senses to enjoy this refreshing & invigorating blend of Rooibos herbal tea that has strong peppermint leaves and a touch of bergamot. All natural ingredients, this herbal tea is a great caffeine free tisane to enjoy in the evening after dinner. Delicious and refreshing blend of rooibos and natural flavors make this a great tea hot or cold! Read about thehealth benefits of Rooibos tea.

Today’s Teas: Golden Pearls Black Tea, Sundew Green Tea, & White Chocolate Toffee Rooibos

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Today we are sampling a wonderful black tea from Yunnan, China, a delicious green tea blend, and a tasty herbal Rooibos blend.

Golden Pearls is a great breakfast tea for those looking to drink a rich, smooth, almost chocolate-ty cup of tea. This black tea comes from the Yunnan Province in China and has a beautiful irregular rolled appearance, with brown and black coloring. Yunnan is known for its teas that are sometimes referred to as the “‘mocha of teas.” This is also the same province where Pu-Erh tea comes from, the earthy, sweet tea that is actually fermented.

Sundew Green Tea

Sundew Green Tea

Sundew Green Tea is a wonderful floral green tea blend. This blend combines organic green tea, sunflower blossoms, red rose petals, cornflower blossoms and flavoring. Also makes a delightful iced tea.

White Chocolate Toffee Rooibos has toffee bits, white chocolate chips, cocoa bits, and flavoring. This is an excellent dessert tea and goes well with some milk and sugar.

Today’s Teas: Georgian Village, Almond Cake, Mexican Winter Rooibos

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

On this brisk, sunny day in Austin, we are offering some great choices of teas that you can sample for free.

Georgian Village Tea

Georgian Village Tea

Georgian Village tea is an artisan black tea from the country Georgia. We feel very fortunate to have a limited amount of this special 2007 black tea from Nagobilevi, a Georgian village set up in the foothills of the Caucasus Mountains near the Black Sea. The tea from this high altitude plantation has a distinctive aroma-notes of apple, citrus, honey and rose with a higher tannin but lower caffeine content. Because of Georgia’s geography and meterology, the teas in this region contain microzones, which add more depth to the character of the tea. The Georgian Village Tea made by families is quite sweet and steeps nicely for at least two infusions, at boiling temperature, 212 degrees Fahrenheit, for 4-6 minutes.

Almond Cake Tea

Almond Cake Tea

Almond Cake has the sweet, fragrant taste of almond cake in a green tea blend! This tasty blend competes with our Almond Cookies Green Tea, but this blend has more going on in the taste and is sweeter. Includes Chinese Sencha, Oolong, Pai Mu Tan, almond flakes, chocolate nut bits, coconut, cinnamon & flavoring.

Mexican WInter Rooibos is a fun citrus blend with a spicy kick to it! Rooibos, a South African herbal tisane, with orange, cinnamon, coconut, chili bits, and red pepper. Naturally caffeine free. This tea has a kick to it with the spicy chili bits and red pepper. Wonderful tea if you like hot and spicy foods. Read about the health benefits of Rooibos tea.

Green Tea Day: Great Green Monkey King, Dragon Well, Curly Q, Sweet Green, Gunpowder, Organic Japanese Sencha

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

We are featuring six different green teas today, mostly Chinese green teas, but one from Japan, and one from Sri Lanka.

Great Green Monkey King, also named Tai Ping Hou Kui, comes from Anhui, China, exhibiting a beautiful long green leaf that has been pressed between large pieces of paper. The paper leaves a pressed pattern in the leaf, giving its extradordinary appearance. This green tea has a light, taste and color, making it a refreshing tea, especially in the afternoon.

Organic Dragon Well green tea, also known as Long Jing, or Lung Jing, is one of China’s top ten most famous teas. Originating in Zheijiang, the tea is best known for it’s flat leaf appearance. Tea makers press the withered green tea leaves on a hot wok, flattening the leaves, preparing them to be freshly made. Dragon Well can be described as having a chestnut taste and is very similar to Bi Lo Chun.

Curly Q is our cutesy name for Lu Shan Yun Wu, which is a Clouds and Mist green tea. This extraordinary green tea exhibits the bold taste of a Japanese green tea, with grassy notes, due to its growth in the clouds where there is less light, so more chlorophyll is produced in the leaves. The small curly leaves look like a Chun Mee, or precious eyebrow, but belong to the Clouds & Mist category. If you love Japanese green teas, you will enjoy this one.

Sweet Green Tea

Sweet Green Tea

Sweet Green is an example of a green tea that comes from a country other than China or Japan, this one originates from Sri Lanka. Formerly known as Ceylon, Sri Lanka makes this smooth green tea that has a naturally sweet note to it, when prepared for only 2 minutes in 180°F water. The leaf has a nice curly, rolled appearance, almost like an oolong.

Gunpowder Green Tea

Gunpowder Green Tea

Gunpowder green tea is one of China’s most famous teas, not only because of its great name, but because it was rolled tightly to preserve its freshness for long journeys across the oceans during export from China. This particular grade of gunpowder is very tightly rolled, looking almost like gunmetal pepple or a black tea. This top grade is referred to as Temple of Heaven. Enjoy resteeping this green tea and savor its smoky flavor. Morocco is one of China’s biggest importer of Chinese green tea, as they drink tons of gunpowder green tea, preparing it with fresh spearmint and a hefty portion of sugar. Read Jonathan’s travel journal of his trip to Morocco in 2004.

Organic Japanese Sencha is an everyday green tea from Japan with the wonderful fresh, grassy taste that a great Japanese green tea offers. This particular sencha has a nice sweet flavor and its organic!

Come enjoy these teas today!

Today’s Teas: Turkish Tea, Walnut Green Tea, & Chocolate Mint Rooibos

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Today, come taste the tea of Turkey, as well as a nutty green tea blend, and a delightful herbal blend with chocolate and mint.

Turkish Tea brings to mind the wonders of the great land, with sights like the beautiful city of Istanbul, which borders two continents, or ancient Ephesus, or even the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea. This is a delightful black tea from Turkey’s famous tea growing city, Rize, right on the Black Sea. Turkey drinks so much tea that they consume all their own and import more from countries like Sri Lanka, so it is hard to find Turkish tea in the USA. Enjoy this tea morning, afternoon, or night, since tea time in Turkey is anytime!

Jaimisi Tea comes from Manipur, India, not far from Assam. This hand-crafted, naturally grown, black tea is a great breakfast tea, offering a bold, full-bodied cup of tea, similar to a blend of Assam (malty & sweet) and Darjeeling (green & muscatel or wine). Steeping time at only 3 minutes 15 seconds is all that is needed to enjoy it.

Sterling Silver Needles is our newest white tea. The new batch of 2008 white tea is full of the delights of a Yin Zhen or Silver Needle tea from Fujian, China. The leaf buds are delicate and beautiful, full of Bai Hao, or White Down, little fuzzy hairs that cover the buds and offer the sweet delicate taste that makes white tea so wonderful.

Cappuccino Rooibos is a great caffeine free herbal tea alternative to coffee. Flavors of caramel and cream compliment the rich taste of Rooibos (Red Bush). This blend contains Rooibos, a South African herbal tisane, with caramel cream bits, flavoring, and marigold blossoms. Goes great with milk/cream and sweetener!

Today’s Teas: East Frisian Blend, Wild Ti Kwan Yin Oolong, Savannah Rooibos

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

On this cool day in Austin, we are featuring a strong black tea blend, a delightful oolong, and a rich herbal blend.

East Frisian Blend is named for its original style of black tea in Ost-Friesland, or East Frisia, now part of Germany. This is a bold and full-bodied black tea blend of Assam, Java, and Ceylon teas. Dark copper in the cup with malty and spicy notes. Takes milk and sugar well, just like the East Frisians would make it. They actually put a sugar cube in the cup along with cream and just let it mix itself, no spoon!

Wild Ti Kwan Yin is a more green oolong tea from China. Ti Kwan Yin refers to the style of rolled oolong, Iron Goddess of Mercy. Most of these leaves are picked in the wild, having large leaves that unravel as you steep the tea with the stems still attached. The taste is sweet and slightly floral.

Savannah Rooibos is a great herbal blend with rich flavors of cocoa pieces, almond bits, and chocolate-rum flavoring. During these cool months, this makes a great dessert drink with sweetener and whipped cream on top!
